Conventional Treatment
We are pleased to offer a fun facility and the expertise and training of our staff and doctors to provide care to our patients. Our staff obtains the cooperation of our child or adolescent patients by using warmth, friendliness, persuasion, humor, charm, gentleness, kindness and understanding. There are several behavior management techniques used by Dr. Chambers, Dr. Baechtold, Dr. McKenzie, Dr. Haldeman and staff during a visit with each patient. These techniques include:
- Tell-Show-Do
- Modeling from other patients
- Positive reinforcement
- Distraction – music, pictures on the ceiling, movies
- Helpful tools – mouth pillows, rubber raincoats
- Patients become the doctor and fix Ellie the Elephant's (a puppet) teeth
- Toys, Gameboys, Etch-a-Sketch, art supplies, kids’ magazines
During our new patient visit, we will explore options that are best for your child.

Treatment with Sedation
Many children are calm, comfortable and confident in a pediatric dental office. Because pediatric dentists specialize in treating children, they make children feel special. The office is especially designed for children. Our staff members choose to work in a pediatric dental office because they enjoy kids.
Sometimes, however, a child feels anxious during treatment. Your child may need more support than a gentle, caring manner to feel comfortable. Nitrous oxide/oxygen is a safe, effective technique to calm a child's fear of the dental visit.
Our office offers several agents used in concious sedation. During your new patient visit, we will explore sedation options based on your child's age, level of anxiety, amount of dental work, and length of the appointment.

Hospital Treatment
Complete dental treatment in one visit while your child is asleep has been recommended. This approach is felt the best when you consider the factors of your child's age, anxiety level, extensive treatment needs and emotional well-being.
A short out-patient surgery is an option for a patient with moderate to severe dental needs, acute anxiety reaction or medical history concerns.
